You reload? Why a shortage of ammo? Can't find any brass or bullets?
I have about a half milk crate of .30-30 and I don't even own a .30-30 (not a boast, but simply goes to show that you have to "make hay while the sun shines".).

Hornady cuts their FTX brass short, don't they?

These may not be ideal in the .30-30 (assuming you have a tubular magazine rifle), but try some, if interested, I have plenty: https://americanreloading.com/30-caliber-308/2943-308-125gr-copper-250ct.html
Thank you. The FTX is made for tubular mags.  Great bullet.  Will have to check out the link.  Pretty good prices.

Roger that. They often cut the brass shorter than spec with their FTX loadings; I don't know if it applies to the .30-30 version (the .357 Magnum brass is short as is the .45-70, I believe).
Be advised, many of the AR offerings are pulls, so they may have slight pull marks.

Just anecdotal, but I seem to hear reports that the FTX bullets aren't any more accurate than the XTP bullets (at least in calibers where available). With all the special trimming of brass and such, it doesn't seem worth the trouble (not from actual experience).

FWIW, I see .30-30 ammo in most Walmarts still.

Thank you.  I have actually loaded up.  I also reloaded the FTX over varget and I am very impressed.  Granted it's a 30-30 so I am not going out too far but at 100 I am at 1.5 inch groups.

Good deal. The way I look at it, if you hit the same hole every shot, you'll not do much additional tissue damage.
I don't hunt, but it seems as though the .30-30 is plenty capable for its intended purpose today, as it has been over the decades. If you need an elephant gun, get an elephant gun!

From my understanding, the FTX bullets were meant to prevent clothing from plugging up the hollow tips for self-defense ammo which can cause a HP bullet not to expand. I don't think it's too much of an issue in high velocity stuff but if you're shooting low velocity ammo it can be a problem.

I wouldn't be too surprised if accuracy is about the same as well.

That could be a benefit. I thought the primary goal of the FTX bullet was to provide better aerodynamics (BC) and not cause ignition in tubular magazines (pointed bullets are a no-no in tubular magazines, as a rule).
