Binocular ratings and review websites?
« on: July 31, 2020, 07:50:42 PM »
Howdy folks,

Does anybody have any good websites that actually review and rate binoculars?

The binocular aficionados appear to be a fractured group split between bird watching and hunting with reviews few and far between.

If you know of any good websites please post them. Thanks!

I don't know jack about binoculars.  Recently I got tired of using my wife's crappy, cheap ($40 or so) binoculars, a I watched a few of this guy's videos.  Then I got bored and went back to using my wife's crappy, cheap binoculars happily knowing I'm not going to spend hundreds or thousands on binoculars I will hardly ever use.

Leupold Yosemite binoculars - Optics Reviewer
We have these Leupold Yosemite 10x30 for three years now and are very satisfied. We mostly do bird watching in out yard and have taken them to NM for field trips. Lightweight, good magnification, clear glass, ez to adjust, good distance ability, durable. $120+-.

I would agree if $ was no object but lets be real how many of us are going to start at $1,000+ and up to get binoculars that we use once in a blue moon? If you can, good for you  but there's a difference between want and need.

Indawire, you are correct.

Of course, tightgroups has a point with Swarovski.

I’m creeping into the “buy once cry once” category with gun related optics and I have been pleased so far. That being said, I’m not ready to take the Swarovski plunge, just yet on the binocular end of the spectrum.

Basically, I’m looking for a decent pair of binoculars for all around use in the 8-10 power range, in a small to medium body size range.  I’m comfortably willing to spend up to $300 and uncomfortably willing to go higher. I will also be picking up some less expensive binoculars to be placed in the cars.

Still looking....

Take a look here:  https://www.vanguardworld.com/

I have one of their spotting scopes and have been pleased with it

I get it, I could think of plenty of things (a can for instance) to spend that extra $ on. Take a good look at the Vortex binoculars, several in your price range and the warranty can't be beat.

That's the brand I went with also. When I went to Cabelas and look at all of their sub $500 binoculars, I found the Diamondback to be the best bang for the buck. Optics are nice and clear and it lets in a lot of light. I mainly use them for duck hunting and they've held up to all kinds of abuse in the field.
